Examinations for recreational boating licenses

The exams take place near the practice jetty and water in Berlin Gatow and are held by the Berlin Examination Board.

The following dates are possible in 2024 (no guarantee):

Procedure of the exam

The test for the recreational boat license in Germany is taken by an external examiner who is approved by the DSV or DMYV and carries it out on behalf of the Ministry of Transport. It is therefore an official test with which an official recreational boat license is acquired, comparable to road traffic.

To do this, you must register with the Berlin Examination Board (DSV) on time. The documents required on the website must be received by post at least 7 days before the examination and the examination fee must be transferred. Otherwise you cannot be tested

The test boat is also the practice boat. The examination board does not provide boats, but these are provided by the school and the student is of course familiar with the boat.

In Gatow, theory can be written as well as sailing and/or motorboat practice can be done. The content of the exams is practiced extensively in our courses until they function independently and a certain routine has been established.

Content of the theory test:

The theory is based on predetermined questionnaires with 4 answer options (multiple choice method). There is a catalog for inland and one for sea (last updated August 2023). These can be downloaded via the Elwis portal and are usually also attached to exercise books. A certain number of questions from each area come from these catalogs.

For domestic users, only the questions from the catalog are relevant. For Lake, an additional navigation task must be completed on the map, consisting of 9 subtasks. At least 7 points must be achieved there.
